How delivered storage units save you time and effort

Traditional storage asks you to do the moving. You hire a van, load it, drive across town, unload into a room, and then repeat the whole thing in reverse months later. A delivered storage unit removes that journey. The unit comes to you, gets built where you want it, and stays there until you are finished with it.

Here is what actually changes, in the order it matters.

1. Your belongings move once instead of five times

This is the real saving, and it is not the one people expect. With off-site storage, every item is handled when you pack it, when you load the van, when you unload the van, when you stack it in the room, and again for all of that in reverse. Handling is when things get chipped, scratched and dropped. With a unit on your drive, it goes from the house into the unit, and later from the unit back into the house.

2. No van to hire, and no second trip

Transport is included within 30 road miles of our Luton depot, which covers most of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire and a good part of north London. Beyond that we add £2 plus VAT per extra mile, each way, worked out from your postcode. Either way there is no van on your driveway costing you a day rate, and no second trip in four months for the box you forgot.

3. You load at your own pace

Nobody is waiting. Most of our customers fill a unit over several evenings rather than in one exhausting Saturday, which means better packing, fewer breakages and a better chance of labelling the boxes properly.

4. We build it, and we take it away

Two of our team arrive with the panels flat-packed on a van and assemble the unit on site, usually in between 30 minutes and three hours depending on size. At the end of the hire we come back, empty it out, dismantle it and take it away. Nothing is fixed into your property and nothing is left behind.

5. It goes where a container cannot

A shipping container needs a lorry with a crane, hard standing and a clear overhead swing. Our panels are carried in by hand, so the question is whether two people can walk a panel through, not whether an HGV can reverse in. We need a route with 2,150 mm of height clearance and a firm, reasonably level spot the size of the unit. Grass, gravel and concrete all work; we level it on wooden blocks so air can move underneath.

6. Access is yours, at any hour

The unit is on your land, so there are no opening times and no drive across town to check something. Two built-in deadlocks secure the door and you hold the keys, so there is no padlock to buy and nobody else has a way in.

7. Eight sizes, and honest prices

Prices exclude VAT. Hire is billed every four weeks with a four week minimum. Pay six months up front and installation and collection are half price; pay twelve months up front and they are free. Book online rather than over the phone and the hire is 10% cheaper.

8. It works for businesses as well as households

Retailers use them for seasonal stock, builders for tools and materials so the van goes home empty, schools and offices during refits, and event companies for kit between jobs. The appeal is the same in every case: the storage is where the work is.

Two things to plan around

A loaded unit cannot be moved. If it ever has to go to a different address it must be emptied and dismantled first, so choose the spot with the whole hire in mind. We cannot deliver a full unit to a new address.

Damp is the enemy of stored fabric. The units are steel and weatherproof and designed to live outdoors, but for soft furnishings, timber and anything stored over a winter, add Absorpoles at £25 each to pull moisture out of the air.

Is it right for you?

If you have a driveway, garden, yard or parking space, and you are storing more than a few boxes, a delivered unit will usually cost less in total and a lot less in effort than a room across town plus a van. If you have no outdoor space at all, a local facility is the better answer and we will say so.
