How much does storage in London cost?

How much does storage in London cost?

Storage in London costs more than anywhere else in the country, because floor space does. A delivered Door To Store unit is the exception to that rule: our hire rates are the same in Ealing or Enfield as they are in Luton, from £35 a week plus VAT for a 2 × 2 m unit to £140 a week for a 4 × 6 m unit. The only London-specific lines on a quote are transport beyond 30 road miles and, for central addresses, the Congestion Charge.

This guide sets out what you pay for a unit on your own drive or in your garden, what a self storage room in the capital involves, and when each makes sense.

Installation and collection are half price on a six-month hire and free on twelve months. Hire online and the weekly rate is 10% lower.

The London lines on the quote

Transport

Our depot is in Slip End, just south of Luton, so much of north London is inside our 30-mile band and transport is included: Barnet, Harrow and Enfield, for instance. Further out, we add £2 plus VAT per road mile beyond 30, each way, so Ealing and Hounslow add a small mileage line and Croydon, Sutton or Orpington a larger one. The quote measures from your full postcode.

Congestion Charge

If the delivery address is inside the central zone, the Congestion Charge for the van is added as a separate line for the delivery visit and again for collection. Outside the zone nothing is added.

ULEZ

Nothing. Our van is ULEZ compliant, so there is no charge for driving anywhere inside the zone.

What self storage in London costs

Self storage prices vary by facility, floor and how long you stay, so the honest benchmark is the industry average: the Self Storage Association UK’s 2026 annual report gives £27.40 per square foot per year across the country. On that average a 100 sq ft room is around £53 a week before insurance, and the report does not break London out separately, so ask any facility for its own rate card.

Then add the parts that do not appear on the rate card: a van or a man-and-van to get everything there, the same again to get it back, insurance, and a drive across London every time you need the box you forgot.

Where a delivered unit fits in London

Space is the catch. A 2 × 2 m unit needs roughly a single parking space, and a 2 × 4 m needs a standard driveway. Terraced streets with no off-street space are the hard case, because the unit has to sit on private ground. Where we can help, and do most weeks:

  • Front drives and hardstanding in the outer boroughs, from Barnet and Harrow round to Ealing and Hounslow.
  • Rear gardens reached through a side passage or a gate. The panels arrive flat-packed on a van and are carried through by hand, so a 2,150 mm clearance is all we need.
  • Communal car parks and yards for blocks of flats, schools and businesses, with the managing agent’s agreement.
  • Building sites, for tools and materials that would otherwise go home in the van every night.

Our London page and the borough pages under it list the postcode districts we cover and the transport line for each.

Three London examples

  • Loft conversion, Barnet, ten weeks. 2 × 4 m unit on the drive: £160 install + £160 collection + 12 weeks at £60 (three four-week periods) = £1,040 plus VAT. Inside the 30-mile band, so transport included.
  • Full refurbishment, Croydon, six months. 2 × 8 m unit in the garden, six months paid up front: £120 install + £120 collection (half price) + 26 weeks at £100 = £2,840 plus VAT, plus the mileage beyond 30 miles each way, worked out on the quote.
  • School refit, Enfield, a year. 4 × 6 m unit in the car park, twelve months up front: installation and collection free, 52 weeks at £140 = £7,280 plus VAT.

Common questions

Is a delivered unit cheaper than self storage in London?

For a few boxes, a small locker is cheaper. For a room or a home’s worth of furniture, the weekly rates are similar and the delivered unit saves the transport, the insurance add-ons and the journeys. Customers who have done both tell us it worked out cheaper overall.

Do I need planning permission for a storage unit on my drive in London?

Usually not. The unit is temporary and not fixed down. If you live in a conservation area or a flat with a managing agent, check first.

Can you deliver inside the Congestion Charge zone?

Yes. The charge for the van is added to the quote for each visit. We deliver Monday to Friday, and Saturdays by appointment.

How quickly can you deliver in London?

We usually need 7 days’ notice to book an installation and can sometimes do it sooner. Get a quote with your postcode and pick a date.
